Foxconn to build Multi-billion dollar Chip Factory in Qingdao

Taiwan electronics giant Foxconn is set to construct a new chip factory in the city of Qingdao, as reported by CNtechwire and the DigiTimes.

The factory, which may constitute an investment of 60 billion Yuan ($8.5 billion USD), is “dedicated to providing advanced packaging and testing technology for chips used in 5G and artificial intelligence-related devices” and will have a monthly capacity of “30,000 12-inch wafers.

The contract was signed on April 15. “The plant will package chips for 5G communications, artificial intelligence, and other applications that are currently experiencing rapid growth in demand.
